The tile toy [2] (was what i knew about & interested me in the show), briefcases as drawers (this is a great idea) [3], laptop backlights as lighting [4], people who “print” onto/into concrete [5], the elemental kitchen (not maybe so practical, but definitely NICE) [6], and what i will just call the “smell bubbles” [7].

It’s not disappointing to me that someone might want to install a snooper on someone else’s cellphone. It isn’t disappointing that there are legal implications to using this software. It even isn’t that disappointing that other people feel that THEY _HAVE_ to *STOP* the terrorists.

It’s disappointing that this has to be marketed in this way. This software is one-of-a-kind. It’s interesting. It solves a problem that isn’t solved in any other way. How can I, a cellphone user (and mobile software developer) view my call logs on a website? How can I lookup who I messaged last week about such and such? I can’t. The packages that carriers provide are all hodge-podge and mostly useless in this regard. The data is obviously the user’s– why can’t they see it? (They’ll get to see some more of it on their bill, if they’re lucky, but disregard that for now.)

The phones are capable of it. The networks are capable. The web is definitely capable. But, the only people doing anything about it are forced to sell their software as “spy” software. And we’re chastising them for it.

Shame on us.

I just spoke with Mike Battle, the man who invented the Echoplex, on the phone.

He made a new model (the Tubeplex) in the last few years and sells tapes that work in both it and the vintage ones on ebay. I bought a tape, hoping it would fix the woes of my recently scavenged Echoplex EP-2 (tube unit w/ Sound-on-Sound). The ebay auction had his name and number in it. And, my Echoplex has plenty wrong with it, so I gave him a call.

I told him which Echoplex I had (�oh, that’s the best model.�), and asked if he did, indeed, repair them (�Well i built it!� ).

He repeated several times, “I’ll put it new.�

So excited. I’ll ship it to him tomorrow.

Repair list:
- Missing original box.
- Missing faceplate.
- Sound-On-Sound does nothing.
- Tape doesn’t seem to erase well.
- Movable head doesn’t slide well, wires seem loose.
- One part in back looks particularly fried.
- Hole on front could use a plug.
- Are either of these knobs original?

I just walked around the corner and the local news vans were all hovering around Pixar, uploading their casts for the evening.

Disney shuffled over 7.4 billion in stock to buy Pixar today.
