I listened to an Alan Watts lecture today titled “NYC as Manifestation of Avalokiteshvara” [1]. I loved this short proverb he told:

“Kindly let me help you, or you’ll drown,” said the monkey, putting the fish safely up a tree.

It reminds me of a John Cage piece whose title I think of often:

__Diary: How to Improve the World, You’ll Only Make Matters Worse_._

And, of course, Avalokitesvara is the inspiration for my favorite photo of Jean Cocteau [2].
